This workshop has been created to give a select group of local businesses the opportunity to network with each other as well as learn from local experts in family business consulting. The workshop provides a twist on the traditional workshop format as the discussion with the participants and experts takes place between acts of the production “The Perils of Pauline’s Family Business.”

This half day event provides a comfortable learning environment for family owned businesses to discuss the unique challenges taking place within their own enterprises. Actors will role play the challenges facing Pauline and her business, issues such as how to adjust to generational differences in management style, how to deal with the different skill levels of her children and what to do if her in-laws are more capable than “blood.” These and other challenges will be presented via three family “meetings” over Thanksgiving dinners occurring at different points in the life of the family. The audience (family business owners) will participate in a facilitated discussion by two leading family business experts, Ernesto Poza and Leslie Dashew.

This workshop to be held on Tuesday, November 10th will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts located at 7380 East Second Street, Scottsdale, Arizona 85251. The cost for the workshop is $100 per person, which includes lunch. Interested family businesses can register online at www.PhoenixChamber.com/foe

Pollack & Company. “But, it will be due more to a swing in inventories than a change in the basic dynamics of the consumer.”

The Economic Outlook 2010 study was compiled in August using data from various sources including Cox 7 Digital Cable customers who responded to interactive poll questions via their cable remote controls. The results show Phoenicians feel the following:

• On Arizona’s Elected Officials - 59 percent believe Arizona’s elected officials are inferior to other states’ leaders, up 20 percentage points from last year.

• On the Economy - 72 percent expect the economy to be the same or improve in 2010.

• On Stimulus Funds in Arizona - 40 percent believe the funds to be a positive impact, while 43 percent expected no impact and 17 percent expecting a negative impact.

The Economic Outlook 2010 event featured four presenters of varied expertise. Dr. Angel Cabrera, president of Thunderbird School of Global Management, kicked off the event by addressing the international perspective of globalization. Beckie Holmes of Cox Communications, presented on the national economy and what we can expect to see come 2010. Elliott Pollack provided a detailed analysis of the current commercial and residential market in Phoenix and how the valley compares against other markets in the nation. Secretary of State, Ken Bennett, rounded out the program with a presentation on the state budget.

“The Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce is proud to be able to provide a venue like Economic Outlook 2010, which brings the community together to hear vital economic information from a diverse line-up of experts. Although much of what we heard today is still negative – all indicators point to an end to the recession and in the direction of a slow gradual recovery,” stated Todd Sanders, president and CEO. “The data shared today illustrates that this was indeed a world-wide recession which severely impacted Arizona. Our job going forward is to rebuild the economy, mindful of difficult lessons we have learned.”

This Economic Outlook event provided valley professionals with up-to-the-minute information about the changing dynamics of the economy. Information shared at the event pointed to the global impact of the economic growth as foreign markets such as the Euro Zone and China are recovering.

The complete survey results, as well as PowerPoint presentations and video from the event, are available online at www.phoenixchamber.com/EO2010.

Bolton, who has been Arizona State Director of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) for the last 10 years, fills the void created when Todd Sanders became the GPCC’s President & CEO. In her new role, she will spearhead the Chamber’s efforts as the “voice of business” for its 3,400 business members with government officials at the local, county, state and federal levels.

“The relationship between the Valley’s business community and the state legislature is crucial, perhaps now more than ever,” Sanders remarked. “Michelle brings outstanding credentials, with years of advocacy experience in the public policy arena, a deep understanding of the issues that impact business and the ability to build strong coalitions. She will be an excellent addition to our staff and an asset to our members at the Capitol.”

"The opportunity to serve the membership of the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce is not only a high honor, but also is a chance to build on the experience I bring over from my previous 15 years of association, advocacy and political work. I'm humbled and deeply thankful for the faith the Chamber has placed in me."

As NFIB’s Arizona State Director, Bolton served as the main conduit between the organization’s 10,000 small business members and lawmakers, state agencies and the community through lobbying, public testimony, speeches and media opportunities. She also worked with legislators, state agencies and stakeholders to craft meaningful legislation in critical areas such as health care, regulatory reform and unemployment insurance reform.

Her career in legislative affairs also includes grassroots efforts on behalf of the American Land Title Association, strategy, fundraising and media planning for the Associated Builders and Contractors, two years as Government Affairs Director for the Realtors Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh (Pa.) and a year as an aide to US Representative (and later Senator) Rick Santorum.

Bolton is a graduate of Arizona State University and is currently working on her Masters in Business Administration from the University of Arizona.

The Chamber PAC has a long history of involvement with local and state elections, supporting candidates who have distinguished themselves as knowledgeable and supportive of the issues that affect the success of greater Phoenix area businesses. After a thorough review of questionnaire responses and personal interviews, the Chamber PAC has decided to endorse four candidates for the City Council based on their history of support for, or commitment to support, the Greater Phoenix business community.

“Phoenix will once again face a challenging year, due to the current economic climate and budget considerations,” said Greater Phoenix Chamber PAC Chairman, John W. Moody. “It is imperative that we continue to elect council members who will work with the local business community to ensure a successful future for the entire Phoenix region.”

The Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce PAC has decided to endorse the following candidates for the 2009 City Council races, all incumbents:

•	District 2: Peggy Neely
•	District 4: Tom Simplot
•	District 6: Sal DiCiccio
•	District 8: Mike Johnson

“Once again, this was a taxing process,” remarked Todd Sanders, the Chamber’s President. “We heard from many qualified candidates, and endorsed those who had the clearest understanding of the issues and challenges facing businesses in Phoenix.”

For more information on the process or the endorsements, call the Chamber’s Public Affairs Manager, Nicole Patterson, at 602.495.6464.

About the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee
